Nick and Alastair go deep down this fortnight, delving into the criminal underworld (kinda) with Nimona, then plunging literally underground with Silo season 1.

But first, Alastair’s watched the latest film in his beloved Mission Impossible franchise (surely you’ve read his epic retrospective article?), while Nick’s staying up in the light with Abbot Elementary.

And then it’s time to get ambiguously not-evil with Nimona (15:09), Netflix’s movie adaptation of the devious graphic novel by ND Stevenson.

Lastly, they study the dark secrets of Silo (24:54), the hit Apple TV series. But are our heroes about to go unusually against the media consensus?

This fortnight, Nick and Alastair take a journey into many sides of America, with the dark underbelly in Poker Face, and an altogether more whimsical angle in Asteroid City.

But first, some other TV catchup, as Nick’s finished the final season of Ted Lasso, while Alastair plunges into a new grim collection of Black Mirror episodes.

Plus a little more, as they both saw Poker Face (13:56), the acclaimed new crime show from Rhian Johnson. Is it as good as people say?

And how about Asteroid City (26:52), the latest movie from tweecore auteur Wes Anderson?

A brutal fortnight this time, as Nick and Alastair cover teen cannibal drama Yellowjackets and ultraviolent Finnish movie Sisu.

But first, Alastair’s staring at shiny cars and shinier bald heads in Fast X, while Nick’s reading Stan Sakai’s fluffy rabbit samurai comic Usagi Yojimbo.

And then it’s off into the wilderness with Yellowjackets season 2 (15:02), as the lost football team finally get into the meat of the situation. Specifically the dead human meat. Including hardcore survivalist season-ending spoilers from around 25:30.

Lastly, our heroes relax by watching an angry commando slaughter Nazis in Sisu (34:08).

A couple of the year’s major cultural events come together here, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the final season of Succession.

But first, Nick’s been reading introspective flight-metaphor comic She Could Fly, while Alastair’s been at Sci-Fi London film festival, seeing movies you cannot watch, such as Phi 1.618.

But never mind that, it’s time to get into Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (8:45), a sequel to a film wildly heralded as the best Spider-Man adaptation and one of the best animated movies of recent years. So no pressure then.

Lastly, another era-defining release – Succession season 4 (26:57), concluding the smash hit series about horrible rich siblings destroying each other. Includes full-fat finale spoilers from 37:35.

Nick and Alastair find another animated anthology to subject to an internet-friendly chart treatment with Star Wars: Visions, and are then punished by an online demon in new comic W0rldtr33.

But first, Alastair’s revisiting one of the very first recommendations on this podcast by reading all of The Manhattan Projects by Jonathan Hickman & Nick Pitarra, while Nick’s fulfilling a longheld ambition by finally watching Justified.

And then they finally dive into season 2 of Star Wars: Visions (12:43), pausing only to also reflect on the first season which they felt compelled to watch due to geek completism. After all that, the inevitable top three countdown takes place.

Lastly, Nick and Alastair read unsettling internet horror comic W0rldTr33 #1 (26:44) by James Tynion IV and Fernando Blanco and try not to reflect too much on the amount of time they’ve spent online and the fact the demon is probably already in them.

This fortnight, Nick and Alastair are very much in motion, with two different but very enjoyable action movies: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and Polite Society.

But first, Nick’s read cosmic space-horror comic Brink while Alastair’s watched Amazon’s TV adaptation of The Underground Railroad.
And then it’s off into the stars for one last ride with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (13:52). Has it been too long or will the lovable space-losers pick up right where they left off?

Finally, a more earthbound series of fights in Polite Society (28:18), a new British action movie which deserves your attention. Seriously, watch this, it’s really good.

Lastly, and also very important and worthwhile, it’s StoneCop, the new comic Kickstarter from our very own Nick Bryan, artist Phil Appley and letterer DC Hopkins, a story of one rocky lawman and his battle against marauding trolls and the secrets of his own creation. Check out the campaign here and back if you like the look of it – good monster crunching fun all the way down.

This fortnight, Nick and Alastair cover the new season of The Mandalorian, followed by All Against All, a new comic written by Alex Paknadel and drawn by Caspar Wijngaard. (If that Mando/Paknadel combo sounds familiar, it has come up before.)

But first, Alastair’s feeding his Dark withdrawal with new French scifi series Parallels, while Nick is back in the past again with urban fantasy comic Fallen Angel.

After all that, time to don your massive helmet and venture into the cave with The Mandalorian season 3 (12:18). Should you listen to any internet concerns you might’ve heard about this run? (Not really, no.)

Lastly, Nick and Alastair voyage into even more dangerous territory with All Against All (27:50), a new scifi miniseries from Image by Alex Paknadel, Caspar Wijngaard and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, about an alien race encountering the most dangerous species of all: yes, it’s human beings.

Nick and Alastair enter a world of imagination this fortnight, with two separate game-based movies: Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves and, yes, Tetris.

But first, Nick’s gone even further into comfy escapism with Superman & Lois, while Alastair’s retreated into the past yet again with Neon Genesis Evangelion.

After which, they sit down around the table, roll some dice and prepare to not appear on-screen in Dungeons & Dragons (14:23).

And if that was too intense, Nick and Alastair finish up by sitting down for a nice game of Tetris (28:01).

A journey into two different dark corners of the human psyche this fortnight, as Nick and Alastair tackle The Last Of Us and Alan Partridge: Stratagem.

To steel themselves, Alastair’s enjoyed some uplifting romance with Rye Lane, while Nick’s retreated into his childhood with Sonic The Comic The Podcast.

But the fun can only last so long – it’s time to trudge into the video game adapted apocalypse with The Last Of Us (14:06). Includes discussion of deep sadness.

And then Alan awaits, as Nick and Alastair discover the faded TV star’s latest failure in Alan Partridge: Stratagem (28:01).

This fortnight, Nick and Alastair cover a popular character from much smaller screens, trying to make their way into the movies – yes, it’s Cocaine Bear. They also saw the new Luther film.

But first, Nick’s listened to new Sleaford Mods album UK GRIM, while Alastair’s attempting his regular annual Oscar predictions, underneath which Nick has added his regular annual buzzing noises.

After all that, it’s off to the woods to huff some Cocaine Bear (14:29) and find out whether it’s worth watching the whole film in addition to the trailer.

Lastly, forever-staring cop Luther returns in Luther: The Fallen Sun (24:07) on Netflix. Will glossy cinema budgets blunt Idris Elba’s edge?
